Ditto defines success

Dec. 7, 2021 - Susan T. Burtch

Brandcenter alumnae Elizabeth Heinberg (M.S.’08/B) and Claire Glisson (M.S ‘16/B) had pitched Ditto many times before they won the 2021 VCU Alumni Pitch Competition. But perseverance finally paid off this November – to the tune of $2,700 – when their SaaS startup claimed first place for its pro-active approach to managing work between freelancers and clients.

“Ditto found a very real need that spoke to all the judges in helping to develop a solution for the new economy and especially for creatives,” says Brandcenter professor Berwyn Hung. “It’s wonderful to see alumni take situations they are in and use the problem-solving skills they learned in order to help others and build new businesses.”

In fact, bolstered by the award, Heinberg has now quit her job to work full-time on growing Ditto. The business partners plan to use their award money to drive awareness by marketing more broadly on pay-per-click and social media.

After all, nothing succeeds like success.
