INFO16X is a series of six digital literacy academic credit courses that help you improve your proficiency of computer-based applications such as the Internet and Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. These courses are prerequisites for some School of Business courses and are requirements of the business foundation program.

INFO16X courses are:

  • Online (no classes to attend, but on-campus testing required)
  • One credit each
  • Pass/fail (P will not impact GPA, F will)
  • Self-paced
  • PC-based (Macs somewhat supported)

General information

Registration: Online registration is done through the normal add/drop date each semester. Late registration is possible until the current semester's withdrawal date, but is not available online. To register after the add/drop date, pick up a form in Room B1100 of Snead Hall and take completed form to the Student Services Center in Harris Hall.

Online accounts: Once registered, you must pay for access to an online myitlab account, which includes eTexts for each course. The account also gives you access to online tutorials and the exam. Exams can not be taken without an account. The account is good for 4 sequential semesters if you want to take additional INFO16X courses.

Requirements: Internet access using a supported browser and a VCU email account are required for INFO16X courses.

Blackboard: For each INFO16X course, there is a Blackboard site with course documents and information such as office hours and exam dates. Check your course site(s) frequently for updates.

Course handouts: To access course handouts on Blackboard, select the Course Information button, followed by the Course Handouts folder.

Assistance: There is no in-class instruction for INFO16X courses. You’re expected to complete the myitlab online tutorials and any eText exercises on your own. The best way to request help is via email at wandrews@vcu.edu. Assistance is also available during office hours in Snead Hall, Room B2154 or by phone at (804) 827-0956.

Exams

All exams are pass/fail at an 80-percent pass level and are administered on campus in Snead Hall. Exam registration deadlines and instructions for signing up will be sent to your VCU email. Lab space is limited, so sign up early to guarantee a spot.

The first exam opportunities are mid-semester. You have the option to retake the exam IF your first attempt was completed by the posted deadline and IF you scored at least a 40 on the first attempt.

To take the exam, you must have a myitlab online account. The day of the exam, a photo ID is required for sign-in. Wait lists and walk-ins are only allowed to take an exam if there is space available.
