Internship & Job Search Checklist

Keep track of our suggested steps for starting your job or internship search with this checklist. You can make an appointment with a Career Coach at any step of the way!

Get started on your resume by using our VCU School of Business template and uploading it to VMock to make any suggested changes. Be sure to use university ID when logging into Handshake. Draft a cover letter using our template specific to the opportunity you've selected.

Complete your Handshake and LinkedIn profiles online, which should match each other and your resume. Add a profile picture, experience from your resume, and skills. Be sure to indicate what you are seeking: full-time job, part-time job, or internship. Make your profile visible to employers!

Start exploring opportunities in Handshake. Use the filters and searching criteria to tailor your options, or consider looking at BizCareer. Choose one posting to use as a practice for your first application. Also connect with alumni in your field on BizConnect.

Prep for the interviewing process by using InterviewStream or making a practice interview appointment with a Career Coach.

Make an appointment with a Career Coach to review your application materials or fine tune your search and networking strategy.
